Learning about Tesla’s company culture
This looks like an interesting video about Tesla’s company culture from someone who worked there for four years. It is very cool that Tesla empowers its employees to solve problems in whatever way that person feels is best. It sounds super cool to be surrounded by tons of uber talented people. This guy’s experience was that there are a ton of incredibly smart people who are hell-bent on pushing for Tesla’s goals. I have felt this at every company I’ve worked at. I love feeling stupid and having to learn. The employee perks sound pretty awesome. Both the health care and the stock options sound like huge benefits. Reading Ashley Vance’s book showed me how Elon is willing to move heaven and earth to get the best medical care for his employees. The point this guy made about Tesla being widely respected is cool for both employees and investors. There are definitely people out there who hate...

The Scalding Light of Skepticism
The Scalding Light of SkepticismDear Friends, It seems to me, unfortunately, many of us are unable to be skeptical of government, no matter how many times we have caught them in a lie. Like Lincoln’s old adage, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time…” for that you need social media’s censorship. Many people today can be fooled all the time. Mostly because they are willing to be deluded. I wonder if some people even have a nihilistic, inner self destructive urge, inculcated by the public education system. Regardless of why some lack skepticism, that lack allows them to be manipulated, and thereby push popular opinion away from self interested skepticism… and to a blind obedience to known swindlers. To our mutual injury.Skepticism is a healthy attitude, especially when we have caught someone...

Mondays of Meaning April 11th, 2022
This week's edition will discuss self-development, a conversation with Quillette's Founding Editor On Starting The Most Controversial Magazine In The World, and discovering the kind of job that suits you.Strive Towards What's Better. The modern idea is you’re supposed to accept yourself. I think that’s an insane idea - really. I can’t think of a more nihilistic idea than that.“You’re already okay”.It’s like, “no, you’re not!” And the reason you’re not is that you could be way more than you are. What do you want to be: do you want to be okay as you are, or do you want to strive towards what’s better?Monday Reflections“You are, on the one hand, the most complex thing in the entire universe, and on the other, someone who can’t even set the clock on your microwave. Don’t overestimate your self-knowledge.” “It is not virtuous to be victimized by a bully, even if that bully is...

Canada's Political Theater
There are few things a person can do to ensure others will form an unflattering impression of them than to transmit a genuine look of distain toward others. Now if you are with friends, and let’s say someone tells an off-colour joke or takes a good-natured poke at you for something or other, they’re probably trying to prompt you to blow a raspberry at them or to get an eye roll. They’re inviting you to play. And that look of disdain offered in response is likely fighting a losing battle with amusement. But in most other serious exchanges, be it in a professional environment or in an unfamiliar social setting, if you are on the receiving end of a disdainful look, there is really only one way to take it. That person thinks you and/or whatever opinion you have shared is either entirely idiotic or at the very least is something this person would really rather not have to spend their...

What is Elon up to?
Last June I had a ‘revelation’ about Elon Musk, after I accidentally ingested weed cake.Under the influence, I delved deep into the Twitter hole and wasted a whole day researching Musk and SpaceX. Among other things. The post made for an amusing and satirical read but sadly I was unable to prove Musk was the Devil. 👹Sigh. (Read here! Only if you want to 😊)I have been fascinated by him ever since, kind of like small children are with dinosaurs. I follow him on Twitter just to see if he is up to no good and I have also been working on this Picture…my personal expression of Musk.Elon Musk — Mission to Mars, by Amanda GleavesLet’s face it, he is quite the modern day wizard, with a bit of a saviour complex. A myriad of followers on Twitter believe he can do anything and he mystifies them with Teslas and promises of trips to Mars. He is even viewed as a saviour by some, destined to prevent...

The Inflation Octopus
Do you remember the old Star Trek episode, “The Trouble with Tribbles”? In the beginning, everyone loved the cute and adorable tribbles. They were valuable, sought after and became a type of trading item. Unfortunately, they multiplied exponentially, and soon, there were far too many of them. As the number of creatures increased, they became less and less valuable. Almost overnight, they transformed from a sought after commodity to an underfoot nuisance. If dollars were tribbles, the loss of the value is inflation.John Steele Gordon explains in “Inflation in the United States” that “As the price of money falls, the price of every other commodity must go up” (bit.ly/3NhnDB8). Gordon explains that “when the economy went into a deep recession with the bursting of the housing bubble in 2008... the government began running unprecedented budget deficits. The national debt, over $10 trillion...
